Provides surveillance of hospital inpatient population for evidence of infection. Assists nursing personnel in proper care of patients with infections. Establishes and maintains a program of infection prevention training for hospital personnel. Collects and compiles data on numbers and types of infections. Coordinates infection prevention portion of the hospital’s JCAHO survey process to achieve compliance with the standards.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Serves as principal working member in the Infection Prevention Committee, responsible for influencing, coordinating, implementing, supervising, and evaluating the standards of care developed by the committee. Conducts ongoing surveillance of infections in hospital patients and hospital personnel. Compiles and interprets the surveillance data with assistance of Medical Director and Infection Prevention Committee Reports on all infectious diseases as required by local, state and federal laws to appropriate agencies. Collaborates with all disciplines and departments in the medical care facility to incorporate infection prevention principles in policies and procedures in order to provide a safe environment for hospital patients and personnel. Maintains records for Employee Health and Infection Prevention. Provides in-services and training/education to all hospital staff regarding Infection Prevention, OSHA, and employee health/wellness. Information/education will be provided on an Individual basis, if required. Reports communicable diseases to Health Departments. Administers and monitors/follows-up on TB testing, Hepatitis B vaccination, Flu vaccines per hospital policy and State Health Departments. Orients and participates in new employee orientation. Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing and current WV Registered Nurse license. CIC Credential (Certification in Infection Prevention and Control) or minimum of two years’ experience in Infection Prevention/Control.
Inpatient psychiatric nursing experience helpful.
ALTHOUGH PRIMARY SCHEDULE IS MONDAY THROUGH FRIDAY, DAY SHIFT, POSITION INFREQUENTLY WORKS OTHER DAYS AND HOURS AS NEEDED
